“Life is a stage…Just dance.”

Dance – the art form that produces poetry in motion, the phenomenon that uses movement to create feelings and transforms feelings into action.  Who cannot recall Gene Kelly and Ginger Rogers dancing across stages and who would forget Michael Jackson moon walking at the Motown anniversary?  Or seeing their very first dance performance? Whether it was the Alvin Ailey Dancers or The American Ballet Theater, we were mesmerized by the movements. We found ourselves captivated by the dancers’ ability to tell a story with leaps and turns. Today with social media and reality television, dance as an art form is highly publicized. One only has to turn on the television and its there for all to appreciate. We have all become familiar with the steps in the Argentinian Tango, the Viennese Waltz or rhythmic moves of Salsa to name a few What is most exciting to watch is the evolution of the art. For the classically trained dancer, ballet, jazz, tap and modern ignites a fire within us. We revere Graham and Thorp, Fosse and Jamison however today there are other dimensions to the art.  Whether it’s hip-hop or afro-Caribbean or interpretative this is an exciting era for the dance world. The fusion of classical dance with acrobatic techniques and the simulation of Latin dance and aerobics there has seen a rebirth. We may refer to these genre as “Acro” or Zumba but what’s most important is that dance is expanding and this invites new audiences to become new participants.

Dancers dominate the dance floor in all shapes and sizes, all ages and gender with interest as varied as the art itself. Arguably this new found passion is generating a healthier community. Dance promotes team building, it instills confidence, it builds character and most importantly it promotes a healthy lifestyle for all ages. Young dancers are said to be more disciplined, able to follow instructions and have good recall. Older adults greatly benefit from the group activity and the socialization and they often report a positive impact on their overall physical and mental health. So whether you want to emulate Michael Jackson doing the Moonwalk, Savion Glover in “Happy Feet”. Baryshnikov preforming the “Little Ballet” or your neighbor taking a Zumba class allow me to invite you to just DANCE!!!!

In our community we are proud to have easy access to all genres of dance. Avalon Dance is the premier dance company in Avalon Park and surrounding communities. As the Owner/Operator and Artistic Director T’kea Le Grande prides herself on teaching a diverse group of students in various genres of dance. Students who attend Avalon Dance are not only taught the physical art form but are educated on the history of the art. Miss T’s (as she is called by her students and parents) mission is to develop the talents of every student that is entrusted to the care of her studio. What is unique about Avalon Dance is its ability to develop strong dancers while cultivating civic minded individuals.

In addition to its strong student body Avalon Dance has a very successful competition dance team. (Avalon Dance Company)  This group of dancers have won multiple awards and trophies however competitive dancing is not the sole philosophy on which the studio is built. The goal of Avalon Dance is to create an environment of learning that simultaneously fosters a love and passion for the art of dance. Avalon Dance students are taught that their primary goal is not to compete and compare but to be “creative, and compassionate” – They are taught to dance from their hearts, they are taught to be inclusive and among other attributes they are taught to support all dancers and to appreciate and celebrate the talents that every dancer brings to the stage.

The studio offers classes for preschoolers, elementary, middle and high school students.  There is also a well-established adult dance fitness and ballroom program. These programs include Dance Hall and Afro-Caribbean classes. As per Miss T “Avalon Dance wants to challenge the creativity in all of its students”. In addition to its well established ballet, jazz, tap, modern, acro and hip hop classes it has expanded its syllabus to include other genres. This speaks to the creativity of the owner and its instructors

We invite you to visit us in person at the studio. Come in – take a free class – and remember “Life is a Stage… Just Dance” For more information visit www.avalondance.net  or call 407-380-3444. We are the only dance studio in Avalon Park.!!!
